Yerba Mate (ilex paraguariensis) Tea

Ilex paraguariensis (or Yerba Mate (Mah-tay) as we have come to know it), is a bush which originated in Paraguay, the heart of South America. First enjoyed by the Guarani people, Yerba Mate is now the healthy, energizing drink of choice for people around the world.

Yerba Mate is a tea-like beverage consumed mainly in Paraguay, Argentina, Uruguay and southern Brazil. It is brewed from the dried leaves and stemlets of the perennial tree Ilex Paraguariensis "Yerba Mate"

According to an old Guarani Indian legend, there was the coming of a God who unlocked the secrets of health and medicine and revealed the healing qualities of native plants. One of the most important secrets was how to harvest and prepare the leaves of the Yerba Mate tree. The Mate beverage was meant to ensure health, vitality and longevity.
